The shortest distance to Etosha in the northern Namibia was to drive through the Caprivi Stripe. The stripe is about 500 km long and some places down to 32 km wide with Botswana in the south and Zambia and Angola in the north. It took us about a day to drive through and we arrived in time to see the sunset over the water hole about 20 meters in front of us.

The most distinctive area in Etosha National Park is a huge pan covering about 9360 sq km and is called "Place of Emptiness". This name fully illustrates the impression one gets while looking over the vast dried lake which solely will be a lake again with an exceptionally quantity of rain. "The lake" is surrounded by low bushes, high grass and several natural and artificial water holes where it is possible to drive very close and watch the animals drink... or see a jackal eating a wildebeest.
