We spent the day in the old city which is surrounded by what was initially a Roman wall. After visiting the Umayyad Mosque we crossed through the Christian and the Jewish quarter, had a Coca Cola in one, a croissant in the other; and ended up in a Roman bath with half naked men telling us about the benefits of rubbing the skin with a boiling sponge.

Even though friday is a traditional holiday here, the souk cooks to the warmest point. Craftsmen, merchants, families in their "sunday" clothes and two tourists - us.

are sales not what they used to be?

Trying the internet we found out that we could not get in Yahoo or Hotmail. Several addresses are still blocked by the authorities and internet has only been available for the last two or three years.
